There's so much to USVI than its heavily endorsed vibrant tropical beach scene. Point for example the unique marriage of the urban lifestyle and the tropical island setting embodied by two of a kind sight pleasers; the Yacht Haven Grande in St. Thomas and Bajo el Sol Art Gallery in St. John.
Yacht Haven Grande
Renowned as one of the biggest shopping capitals in the Caribbean, St. Thomas furnishes whole streets of downtown Charlotte Amalie with the healthy bustle of duty free shops, souvenir stores and local craft shops. What sets St. Thomas apart from other island destinations when it comes to shopping though is Yacht Haven Grande, located along the scenic Charlotte Amalie Harbour.
It is said that to describe YHC as a shopping center is to do it a great injustice. Because although it is buzzing with duty free shops and high-end designer stores, the 80,000 square feet facility offers more; exciting dining, recreational and entertainment amenities, and seaside residences. Not impressed? Here's the kicker; it is complimented with a 48-slip megayacht marina.
It can basically take you an entire day to explore this giant of a beauty. Meander through the brick-laid paths near high-end shops like Louis Vuitton, Coach and Max Azria's BCBG; check out mega yachts pulling into the massive marina, or indulge in waterfront dining. There's always something for everyone at Yacht Haven Grande.
Bajo el Sol Art Gallery
For some fine arts appreciation, Bajo el Sol Art Gallery at St. John is the place to be. Just a short five-minute walk from the Cruz Bay ferry dock, this cozy three-room gallery is set within the sculpted stone walls of the infamous Mongoose Junction -- another USVI shopping district.
A highly recognized art gallery in the Caribbean, Bajo el Sol, features the work of Livy Hitchcock (owner), Aimee Trayer (former owner) and other local artists. The artist's distinctive works, showcased in every medium available and imaginable, captures and reflects the beauty and allure of the romantic St. John.
Whatever it is your eyeing for, be it traditional pastel pieces, muted oil paintings, seagrape bowls and vases, or geokenitic metal and glass shards sculptures, you'll find them here.
The United States Virgin Islands truly is a wonder to behold. The bold mixture of urban style and tropical island setting, exhibited by both Yacht Haven Grande and Bajo el Sol Art Gallery, offers tourist unique perspectives of the Caribbean life.
