Fall vacations can be expensive. A lot of times, you might feel like you can't find anywhere that isn't freezing cold! But the fact of the matter is that you don't have to leave town or really go much of anywhere when it comes to fall vacation. You can make a fun, cool vacation in your very own town!
1. Camping
Like camping in the summer, you can find camping spots nearby in the fall. However, you need to remember to bring heavy duty sleeping bags for fall camping. The nights get awfully cold, after all! Luckily, you don't have to deal with bugs, sunburn, and most of the time, there's almost no one there! If you're lucky, you may also be able to find a nice warm cabin that is free as well.
2. Head south.
You can go down as far as you like in the county, especially if you're looking for a little bit of warmth. However, you can cheapen this by driving! Simply pack up your most reliable car and head on down to Florida or Georgia or wherever you'd like. You can find nice hotels a little farther inland and travel to the beach from there instead of actually having a room on the beach and save money too.
3. Go north! (Not quite to Alaska.)
Maybe you aren't for the warm weather. Maybe you have a perpetual fear of sunburn. In which case, you could head north instead. Simply hop in your car. Keep in mind that most places in the north of the country aren't really what you'd call vacation sites, but you can find really pretty scenery and check out the local shops and see what the culture is like. You might also find good fishing (don't forget to bundle up!) and just an abundance of nature in general.
4. Visit your nearest and dearest.
Sometimes, nothing says vacation like visiting your favorite people. Make sure to call ahead and plan out what you would like to do. Then, pack up and go! This is cheaper, but don't forget to provide something for your host or hostess. Help out with groceries or any utilities if they jump up because of your stay. And, have a good time! There's nothing lovelier than seeing relatives you miss.
5. Staying home.
Like summertime vacations, your cheapest destination is home. This doesn't mean it's any less fun than going somewhere special. After all, home is where the heart is (and you don't have to worry about forgetting special blankies or stuffed animals). Make it special and do something out of the ordinary. Do crafts, have everyone pitch in to bake cookies. If you know how to crochet or knit, you can take that week off to start teaching your kids how to make their own things like hats or mittens and actually have the time to correct and help them! The water park might be out, but if you can manage it, a little fire pit certainly isn't!
With these ideas in mind, you should find it quite a bit easier to plan a cheap, fun vacation at home or wherever your mind or heart takes you. Keep in mind that most of the time, all that you have to do is not fly and you knock off a lot of your costs.
